Need some quick work? PopBookings has you covered

Revamp to Relaunch
To give some background on the app, Erika Koltz created PopBookings with the means of building a bridge between agencies looking for short-term workers, and people looking for quick cash. PopBookings took a backseat during the pandemic; However, due to the re-opening of public spaces PopBookings is being brought back to the forefront for re-launch at the end of 2023. Once again providing individuals with short-term employment opportunities.
Style Guide
The Initial Hand Off
When we commenced the four week project, we were provided the beginning phases of the style guide. The color palette was established, and so was the font. A few high-fidelity wireframes of the job board were also included which allowed for a good starting point for my team and I to take over the files.
At a glance, the main themes were curved lines and lots of color. The app needed to be spruced up to match succinctly throughout the user flow, which gave my team and I something to dive into in the first week.

“The primary user base for PopBookings is roughly 70% female, so the incorporation of a fun, colorful, dynamic style is paramount for the design.”
-Erika Koltz

During the construction of the style guide, we aimed for consistency throughout the platform. This was a focus because we wanted to simplify the building of the app when it gets passed off on the back-end.
We had a few button variants that we all had a meeting and decided on during the first week, which seems like a small feat but those buttons are seen once if not numerous times on every single page.
Bottom Navigation
Communication and Collaboration

Our mission when organizing and designing the bottom navigation was finding cohesive icons that were unfilled, and had soft lines to flow with the over all aesthetic of smooth curves found throughout all the elements in the app.
“I love circles, bubbles, anything that matches the theme of the logo”
-Erika Koltz (Project Manager)
Inspiration for the bottom navigation came from Airbnb, Venmo, and LinkedIn. After several iterations, and playing with the middle tab, we decided less was more. Keeping the hierarchy consistent, and just changing the color depending on the tab.
Adding the missing elements
Evolution of the Job Board
When designing this new job card, my team’s main focus was “what are users looking for when browsing jobs”. After looking through all the previous user reviews on the app store, as well as empathizing with job seekers we came up with three main points of interest.

Wrapping Up
CHALLENGES & OPPORTUNITY
Being the team lead on this project, I learned what it meant to be a successful leader. That being said, it meant that a lot of the time spent was just understanding my team’s goals, schedules, and how we all worked together. I was balancing my team, my job, and producing the foundation upon which my team built.
My biggest challenge was learning how to properly manage my team. I had to walk the line of keeping everyone accountable to make sure the work was evenly distributed, and we got all the deliverables in by their deadlines.
WHAT I LEARNED
I learned the importance of time management and keeping my team on track. The biggest thing that I had to keep in mind the whole time was that we only had a set amount of time to work on this project, and I had to be very mindful of how long each deliverable took.
